Leaving it all behind

We've decided to sell our house in Seattle and move to New York. It's a scary prospect, but I think it will be a good move for many reasons. We're ready for something new. I think we've been in a little bit of a rut out here (me particularly) and I think shaking things up will be good for us.

The long-term plan is to buy some property and start a little farm and possibly open up a B&B. I really love the idea of raising our family in the country--in a quieter, more peaceful setting that will allow us to be more connected to the land, place, and seasons. To grow our food and raise animals. To be part of a community.

This is all in the very early stages, but we're moving forward quickly. The first steps are to get our home ready to list, hopefully in June. Lots of yard-work and cleaning out the clutter.

More to come.

this moment

{this moment} - A Friday ritual inspired by SouleMama. A single photo capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments for all to find and see.

Oliver + S school Days Coat

I Had been wanting to make this coat for a really long time and I finally got around to doing it. I actually finished it up about a month ago, but life (and a death) happened and I'm just posting about it now. The orange wool was upcycled from a horrible women's coat I got for $1.29 at Goodwill....score!   The linging is Alexander Henry mushrooms, and the buttons are dyed tagua.

She loves and and so do I.

Blueberry Scones

I love blueberries, especially in muffins and scones. I've been working my way through a long list of blueberry muffin recipes and haven't found one that's quite right yet and I've been getting a little frustrated with that search so I decided to try scones yesterday morning. I tried this recipe from Martha solely based on the picture that came up on my Google search (I do that a lot, making things based on a picture).

Anyway, my dough turned out way too wet for scones and I ended up working in another half cup or so of flour and they turned out great. I ate almost all of them yesterday.
